Sentinels of Sand with Victor Leong
Many a medium will be used at the ADC Festival, but being on the shores of South Beach, shouldn’t we play with sand? “Sentinels of Sand” will do just that, giving you only sand and water to create the castle of your dreams alongside Victor, the master of the sandcastle himself. Meet in the workshop room at the James Royal Palm to accept your mission, and then we will head to the beach to construct castles.
Who is Victor Leong?
Victor, affectionately known as ‘the Sandman’, is a self-described Chinese-Cuban surfer dude who loves low-rider bicycles. His craft is self-taught, having learned by trial and error. He’s created a wide range of intricate sand designs, from pyramids, hotel replicas, ships and automobiles, but his expertise is making castles — some reaching more than 12 feet high by 40 feet wide!
Victor’s work has been featured in TV shows, magazines, newspapers and movies. He has created structures for the grand opening of the Royal Towers at the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas, and has constructed concrete castles for an amusement park in Switzerland.
When not constructing with sand, Victor also makes Chinese dragon kites and zeppelins, and model ships made of wood.
